About CENTALThe Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), a local not-for-profit, non-governmental, anti-corruption organization founded in May of 2004, through the insightfulness of conscious Liberians that espoused the concept of positive change and a vision for a transparent and an integrity-based society. The organization is registered and accredited by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs. CENTAL is overseen by a seven-member Board of Directors and administered by a secretariat headed by an Executive Director. CENTAL is the local contact group of Transparency International (TI) in Liberia. CENTAL is a member of the following local coalitions: The Coalition against Corruption (CAC); the Campaign (Finance) Monitoring Coalition, National Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Liberia Budget Network and Publish What You Pay. CENTAL has also worked with international organizations such as National Democratic Institute (NDI); Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), National Endowment for Democracy (NED); International Federation for Electoral System; Global Rights; Global Integrity; Open Society for West Africa (OSIWA); Action Aid; UNDP and others. Mission To help build a society that upholds high ethical standards, allowing the government to exhibit transparency in all its dealings and accountability to its citizens. Vision CENTAL envisages a society where corruption will be discouraged, and transparency and accountability will become a hallmark of the government and its citizens. Objectives CENTAL aspires to be a catalyst for improved transparency and accountability in the Liberian society by - 1. Increasing citizens’ participation in the fight against all forms of corruption through education and awareness building programs; 2. Conducting quality research that informs the fight against corruption; 5. Forging links with international and local institutions that are committed to the fight against corruption and democratic governance. Values • Non-partisan staff. • Non-politically aligned. • Receives funding from no questionable or perceivably corrupt source. • Aligns or collaborates only with organizations that share its vision. • Supports no organization or individual that is perceived to be corrupt Our Membership ObjectivesCENTAL is a membership-based organization that seeks to incorporate persons that believe in the exhibition of transparency and accountability as individuals and in their interactions with the public and private sectors. Our members are the engine that drives the effectiveness of the organization. Membership in CENTAL is non-discriminatory; we attempt to attract progressive individuals who have the drive to influence the fight against corruption in Liberia. |
